Terms of service

The formal half. This is a free, volunteer-run league — here's what you agree to by signing in, what we can do about it when something goes wrong, and what we can't promise you.

01Who we are

Riftoria is a community-run in-house league for League of Legends. It is operated by volunteers, offered free of charge, and is not a Riot Games product.

These terms cover this site and the Discord server it runs alongside. Signing in, joining the queue or playing a game means you accept them. If you don't accept them, don't queue.

02Who can play

You need to be old enough to hold a Discord account where you live — thirteen in most places, older in some — and you need accounts in reasonable standing with both Discord and Riot.

You also have to be able to keep to Riot's Terms of Service and Discord's Community Guidelines while you're here. A ban from either is grounds for one from us.

03Your account

  • One account per person. Second accounts exist to evade things, and that is how they will be read.
  • Your account is yours to keep secure. Anything done from it is treated as done by you.
  • Account sharing is a severe infraction in both directions — lending yours and borrowing someone else's.
  • Staff can rename, reset or remove anything on a profile that breaks the rules: usernames, banners, titles and nameplates included.

04Riot accounts

Linking a Riot account is how rank, roles and match records get attached to a person. You link it yourself through Riot's own sign-in — we never ask for your Riot password and can't see it.

  • Link your highest-ranked account. Playing here on a lower one to get an easier draft is smurfing.
  • Disclose a boosted account. It changes what the rank means, and being told is better than finding out.
  • We read public data from the Riot Games API: your account and summoner identifiers, your rank, and the games you play in our lobbies.
  • We can unlink an account, void the records it earned, or decline to link it at all where there's reason to.

05How you behave

The house rules form part of these terms in full. They cover conduct in chat and voice, in the queue, in the draft and in the game, and they set out the infraction ladder staff work from.

Where the two documents disagree, the house rules are the more specific of the pair and they win.

06Coins, crates and cosmetics

Coins, crates, titles, nameplates and tokens are features of this site. They have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money or for anything outside it, and you do not own them — you have permission to use them for as long as your account is in good standing.

  • Crate odds are printed on the crate. What you pull is what the roll gave you: no refunds, no reversals, no re-rolls for a bad one.
  • Balances, inventories, prices and drop rates can be adjusted, rebalanced or reset — including to undo a bug that paid out coins nobody earned.
  • Buying, selling or trading any of it for real money is grounds for a permanent ban.
  • All of it goes with the account if the account goes.

07Ranks, records and boards

Elo, grades, levels and match history here are ours, not Riot's. They describe how you've played in these lobbies and they say nothing about your account anywhere else.

  • Games can be voided where they were sabotaged, smurfed, remade under duress, or otherwise didn't happen the way they were recorded.
  • Ratings can be recalculated when the formula changes or when a result was entered wrong.
  • Monthly and seasonal boards roll over on their own schedule, and whatever is attached to winning them is decided by staff.

08Enforcement and appeals

Staff issue warnings and bans. A warning is recorded and shown to you the next time you open the queue, until you acknowledge it. A ban stops you queueing and removes you from any queue or ready check you're in; it ends when its clock runs out, or earlier if staff lift it.

The ladder in the house rules is a starting point, not a ceiling and not a floor. Repetition, intent and context all move it, and staff apply it — there is no automatic sanction anywhere on this site.

Appeal in a ticket, once. Evading a ban with another account replaces whatever you were serving with a permanent one.

09What you post

You keep whatever rights you already have in what you post — names, avatars, banners, messages, clips. You give us permission to display it here and in the Discord for as long as it's there.

Don't post what isn't yours to post: other people's photographs, private conversations, or anything you don't have the right to share. We can remove anything without giving a reason, and will.

10Your data

Signing in with Discord gives us your Discord ID, username and avatar. Linking Riot gives us your account identifiers and public match data. Playing gives us your results; staff actions give us your sanction record.

It's stored because the site can't work without it — a leaderboard needs results and a ban needs a record. We don't sell it and we don't hand it to anyone who isn't running the league. Ask staff to delete your account and the account goes; results already folded into other players' ratings can't be pulled back out of them, so those stay as anonymous history.

11No guarantees

Riftoria is free, volunteer-run and provided exactly as it is. There is no uptime commitment, no promise that something working yesterday works today, and no promise the whole thing is still here next year.

So far as the law allows, we are not liable for lost time, lost coins, lost rating, a game that didn't happen, or anything else that follows from using the site. Where the law doesn't allow that, our liability is limited to the least it permits.

12Changes

These terms and the house rules get revised. Anything material is announced in the Discord, and the date at the top of each page says when it last happened. Playing on after a change means you accept it.

13Riot Games

Riftoria was created under Riot Games' "Legal Jibber Jabber" policy using assets owned by Riot Games.

Riftoria isn't endorsed by Riot Games and doesn't reflect the views or opinions of Riot Games or anyone officially involved in producing or managing Riot Games properties. Riot Games and all associated properties are trademarks or registered trademarks of Riot Games, Inc.

14Getting hold of us

Appeals, corrections, data requests and “this page contradicts itself” all go the same way: a ticket in the Discord.
